Intellectual Freedom Blog is the blog of the ALA Office of Intellectual Freedom. I am a contributor every six weeks beginning in December 2015. I primarily focus on current topics in intellectual freedom with a special interest in privacy and the right to be forgotten. An index of my articles can be found here.

I was the editor of GLBT News, the news-blog of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table of the American Library Association. I spearheaded the redesign from a quarterly PDF newsletter into a weekly blog in January 2014, and I was a principal contributor until June 2016. On a typical week, I wrote between 6-8 stories for the blog, usually news synopses, association news, and personal op-eds.

GPLSGLEAN Magazine

GLEAN Magazine is the continuing education blog of Georgia Public Library Service. I was a monthly contributor from November 2014-2015. I primarily wrote about staff training and marketing in public libraries. An index of my articles can be found here.

Reading to Filth

My personal blog that primarily consists of book reviews of things that I’ve read. Typical genres include graphic novels, LGBT literature, urban fantasy, and business nonfiction.

Georgia Library Quarterly (May 2016). “My Own Private Library”

A personal review of my personal library for the Georgia Library Association’s quarterly journal.

American Libraries (June 2015). “On My Mind: Are Libraries Really Serving Everyone?”

Written with Ann K. Symons, this op-ed explores needed services for LGBT people in contemporary libraries.

Public Libraries (September/October 2014). “It’s What Works: Outreach to Probationers and Parolees.”

Written with Victoria Horst, this feature is a case study on an outreach program at the Tifton-Tift County Public Library spearheaded by the authors with the local Day Reporting Center that serves as an alternative to jail for probationers and parolees. The article also offers best practice tips to libraries interested in replicating the results.
